What Helps What Hurts

Once a person has taken enough flouroquinolones to cause QTS (Quinolone Toxicity Syndrome) their life is changed forever. Every day is a fight to feel better and avoid feeling worse. Struggling for five years I wanted to share what has helped and what has hurt.

First, reading www.fluoroquinolones.org is a must. Take the time and read the entire PDF that is available. Things like Soy Lecithin (most chocolate), Chicken and Fish Oil Capsules were huge problems I encountered and found confirmation of these reactions there. Many of the foods you eat and water you drink contain flouroquinolones.

What Hurts:

Meat: My diet has changed dramatically to no meat whatsoever expect for wild caught fish. It has become apparent to me that any amount of flouroquinolones means a worse disability so it's simply not worth the risk. Others who decide to eat meat, only eat products that say antibiotic free. If you are going to completely give up one meat, give up poultry, poultry is exceptionally bad due to the fact that poultry is regularly fed Quinolones, not just injected.

Chocolate: I eat no chocolate and other goodies due to the fact that they contain soy lecithin. Just about all QTS sufferers react badly to soy. Try lecithin on and off and see if you are having problems. Specifically Soy Milk prevents me from walking, Soy Lecithin creates a unique pulsing spamming along my spinal cord (more so when sleeping/lying down). I do not belief these are tendon/muscle related, but more hormonal/endocrine related.

Water: Tap water has been extensively tested and does contain flouroquinolones. While, at home, I normally drink filtered water (Wal-Mart 25 cents a gallon) to help further reduce the risk of re-exposure though water.

Pain Killers and Nerve Pain: In the very beginning, I found a very disturbing coloration between those who took pain killers for nerve pain and those who had nerve pain that never went away. I had a tremendous amount of nerve pain in the beginning and most if not all went away within 8 to 12 weeks, I had read that chemically induced nerve pain damage repairs on its own, so I waited it out without using any painkillers and it seems like it did.

What Helps:

Bilberry and Grape Seed extract: I take Solar Ray One Daily Bilberry and also Natural Factors Grape Seed Extract 100mg. Within 4 weeks the benefits were very measurable and obvious. It is the general belief that the Bilberry increases capillary permeability and the Grape Seed repairs damaged capillaries, this causes more blood to reach the affected areas.

Swimming: Swimming seems to allow joints to move better with no weight, which also helps with pain and mobility.

Cooling affected areas: The pain reduction was measurable (that means obvious). My entire back side from my lower back to my knees (back side) was in so much pain I had to try a few new things. I began experimenting by blowing a fan on my entire back side before I went to sleep. At first it seems the fan would cool off the burning sensation on my back side, later I began to consider that maybe the cooling effect was working to lower the energy needs of the area by cooling it off (kind of like why people who fall in ice water can live for hours without breathing). Regardless of why it helps, it helped a lot and allows me to sleep, instead of lie in pain all night.
